My most popular post that went viral on Pinterest is 2023 trend I am loving. You can read it here! So I figured I would write a spin off about the top 5 Kitchen trends we are seeing right now!

Here are 5 Kitchen trends in 2023 you will want to consider if you are renovating or building!

A few things to remember before you start diving into all the hot trends at the moment:

Some trends are “classic”, meaning that they aren’t a fade and they will be timeless!

Some trends are fads, and a good way to notice one is if it comes in fast and hot. Usually it goes as fast as it comes!

Wether you like the new trends or not, its ok! You do you, and what you like! Some people might hate them and some might love them.

I had fun researching some of the trends in kitchens that are happening right now and here are a few topics I will be covering in this blog post!

  1. Kitchen Colours
  2. Backsplash
  3. Hardware
  4. Shapes
  5. Functionality

Kitchen Colours

One colour that is really having a comeback this year is blue! To be exact, navy blue. This dark shade of blue is making waves as a popular kitchen colour. To be honest green is more my jam, but this kitchen from the Tiek Sign Group is making me reconsider!

Another trending colour for kitchens is dark green. This colour will always have my heart. It is proven the colour green makes you feel calm and happy! So why not have it in a space where you spent most your time in. It’s a great way to add a bold pop of colour and sophistication to the space. This kitchen from Studio Mcgee always grabs my attention!

If you aren’t loving the colours or even neutral colours then you might like black and white kitchens. This timeless colour combination is still a popular choice for modern kitchens. A black and white colour scheme can make a kitchen look sleek, clean, and contemporary.

Last but not least and my personal favourite are warm and neutral kitchens. Warm neutrals such as beige, taupe, and ivory are still popular choices for kitchen color schemes. They provide a versatile base that allows for a range of accent colours and finishes. I think this isn’t going anywhere soon and will be a classic! This kitchen from Maison Blonde was a major inspiration in our own kitchen build!

Backsplash

One of the most popular backslashes we are seeing are slab backsplashes. A slab backsplash is a single piece of material that covers the area between the countertop and upper cabinets in a kitchen, providing a clean and modern look.

Slab backsplashes are usually made of materials such as granite, quartz, marble, or even concrete. The advantage of a slab backsplash is that it requires fewer grout lines, which means less maintenance and cleaning.

In addition, a slab backsplash can be a great way to introduce a bold pattern or color into a kitchen design, offering an eye-catching statement piece that ties the entire space together. Overall, a slab backsplash is an excellent option for those who want a sleek and sophisticated look in their kitchen.

Another popular backsplash that we are still seeing in 2023 are uneven organic tiles like Zelig Tile or White Chloe Tiles. Having an organic vibe is the name of the game, and that is exactly what these tiles do! They add a lot of character and can change the whole feeling of the kitchen.

Hardware

Brass is still going strong this year, and without any surprise! It’s durability and visual appeal are a whole package. It adds character, it’s long lasting and timeless! This Studio Mcgee kitchen will probably never get old.

Another popular hardware choice growing in popularity is polished nickel! Polished nickel is popular due to its sleek and modern appearance. It offers a brighter finish than other metals like brushed nickel or oil-rubbed bronze, and it is often used in contemporary and transitional design styles.

Polished nickel also has a durable and long-lasting finish, making it a popular choice for high-traffic areas or frequently used fixtures.

And lastly mixing metals is very popular at the moment. This is seem more and more throughout high end kitchens, and when done right it totally works! Mindy from Mindy Gayer Design & Co totally pulled it off in her bathroom!

Arches and Shapes

Arches were widely poplar in 2022, anywhere from doorways, built ins and doors. This is also started to be noticeable when it comes to kitchen designs! Arches, curves and more geometry is becoming popular in kitchens.

Arched doorways, windows, and range hoods can add an elegant touch and soften the overall aesthetic of the space. However, it ultimately depends on personal preference and the overall style of the kitchen.

Functionality

I have really noticed this with new kitchen design! Making sure there is enough space for storage, coffee corners, hidden pantries and big functional butler pantries are highly sought after!

A well-designed functional kitchen also adds value to a home and can improve the overall aesthetic appeal of the space. This is something I wish I would have planned more thoroughly with our kitchen.

It really is so satisfying when every little space in your kitchen is planned out and functional!
