Why we decided on a classic farmhouse sink

Going in to our build I knew I wanted a white farmhouse sink. And since it would be in our island I wanted it to make a statement. I searched the web for the perfect one until I came across this one from Wayfair. It is a one bowl apron sink that is under mounted. It is made from fireclay which is super durable. I liked the look and the reviews were right and so we decided to go for it.

I was a little nervous because I always had a split sink until now, and I wasn’t sure if I would be making a mistake. I would wash my dishes in one side and then leave them to dry in the other half. So I was nervous that it would be annoying not to have split in the middle. It is also a commitment because the countertop and kitchen island get cut and build around your sink so you can’t just change it out.

Turns out I really love having no split down the middle. Having the one bowl sink is actually quite comfortable and also encourages leaving no washed dishes to dry. Everything fits into it, big pots and pans, big bouquets of flowers or a sweet little babe. Our dishes usually end up in the dishwasher anyway and so the sink is just for rinsing.

We decided to install it the other way around so the front was smooth without the indent.

We have had this sink for almost a year now and I have compiled a list of pros and cons for you guys.

Farmhouse sink pros

  • It is simply beautiful! It is the focal point of our kitchen and adds so much beauty. I love that something can be so beautiful and practical at the same time.
  • It is super durable! I’m in the kitchen almost 24/7 and I am not easy on it. It doesnt have any scratches yes and still looks like new.
  • It is super easy to clean, and to get it sparkly again.
  • The big bowl fits and hides a lot if dishes, or pots and pans. No more soaking baking dishes or cookie sheets on the counter!

Farmhouse sink cons

  • Price is one of them. They aren’t cheap, in compared to a regular kitchen sink. It is definitely an investment.
  • They are heavy! Installing them is no joke! You will need a few extra strong hands! Your cabinetry also will have to have supports built in to support the weight.
  • No double sink. Now this isn’t a con for me, but for some it might be.
  • It is a one bowl sink so when dumping things into the sink food and dirt might get stuck in the corners. That’s why it is important to have a sprayer to get it all out of the corners! If you have a good sprayer it won’t be a problem!

If you would ask me if I would buy it again I would without hesitation say yes!! I am so happy how this sink turned out and I know we will love it for many years to come!
