2024 Home Interior Trends

With the new year looming around the corner it’s time to once again recap what’s coming, whats going and what is here to stay in the interior design trends world.

I wrote an article on 2023 trends that went viral last year! You can read it here.

Colour Trends

We are seeing a shift from greys into browns. Not only are we talking about wall colours but also, furniture, cabinetry, you name it. “Chocolate neutrals” are new grey and you will be seeing a lot more of it in the year. It is even predicted by the New York Design centre that brown will be the colour of the year!

Furniture Trends

Even tho modern farmhouse is slowly heading out the door, wooden furniture isn’t going anywhere. Pieces made from natural elements are going to be favoured in 2024. Think wood, fabrics like wool or linen, rattan, wicker in organic or round shapes!

Layout Trends

I didn’t think I would see the day but it looks like open floor plans aren’t going to be as popular in 2024. It doesn’t look like they are going anywhere but closed in, or more private spaces are gaining more popularity! I’ll be honest I am kind of excited about this one!

Kitchens Trends

This could probably be whole separate post on its own! Something we will be seeing in the kitchen world is the wood trend staying into the new year. Wooden cabinets, shelving or other wooden elements in the kitchen are still very much on trend! Smart appliances and practical storage solutions are also very much valued in the design world. Kitchens that still feel bright but have a sense of moody and a mix of vintage/modern are currently favoured!

Maximalism

Something that has been starting to trend and that we will see much more of is the idea of maximalism. The idea of “more is more”. Not necessarily having more, but being more bold in design choices with colours, patterns, finishing choices. Mixing patters and colours and not in a subtle way. This is a tricky one and can quickly go wrong but when you do it right it can be fantastic!

Feature walls

It looks like feature walls are on their way out in the near future. It has been said that feature walls will feel dated in 2024. Please don’t shoot the messenger! The same treatment on all the walls are now favoured! When wallpapering, try wallpapering the whole room! Same goes for paint or moldings.

Wall Trends

Whatever you decide on, remember that ultimately the best design choice for you is what you love and what makes you feel at home! I think more than ever the design world has evolved into this idea of making it your own, and having a collected home with the things you truly love.

Love,

Inez
