In this post I wan’t discuss 2024 living room trends and what is popular all around living room design this year!
Hey friends! Another trend post coming to you except this time on living rooms. My posts about 2024 Home Design Trends and 2024 Kitchen Trends are my most popular posts so I thought why not cover living rooms! The living room is the main room of the house and plays a huge part in setting the tone of the house.

10 living room trends that are popular this year:
1. Dark moody tones
This year bolder richer colours are gaining popularity in the living room trends in contrast to the bright and white that has been trending for the past couple of years. Think moody greens, rich browns, burgundy and reds. Don’t worry neutral aren’t going anywhere just yet, but it’s time to make some room for moody rooms!
If you like the vibe but aren’t ready to commit try adding in richer colours in furniture, decor pieces like pillow covers or drapes.
2. Accent lighting
Accent lighting has been huge this past year and continues only grow in popularity. Setting a cozy mood and having a romantic ambiance can be achieved with warm accent lighting. Wall scones, pendants or even candle scones can be seen throughout designer homes. Sometimes it’s the lighting that makes all the difference!
3. English country side
We are seeing the english country side style coming back into trend more and more. The laid back country charm, inspired by english country sides are full of rich colours, textures and natural elements. Some characteristics that make the country English country style are:
- warm rich colours
- natural elements like wood, stone and brick
- floral patters
- gingham/plaid patters
- antique furniture
- layered textures (layered rugs, throws, upholstry)
- exposed beams
- fireplace
- china tableware
This style is all about a cozy and relaxed atmosphere full of character. History and quality items are appreciated and that can be seen through furniture, decor, vintage art or house ware. This style is definitely popular in living room trends! If you want to read more about this style I wrote a whole post about it, you can read here!
4. Washable rugs
I mean this only makes sense, am I right? After owning one of these bad boys myself there is no going back. There are more and more companies creating washable rugs and the choices are endless. They are stunning, and you wouldn’t be able to tell that you can just roll them up and pop them in the washer. Especially with kids and pets this is so practical and you won’t want to go back to a regular rug. You can read a more in depth review about one of my Tumble rugs here.
5. Curves
Curves have never been more popular. From furniture to home decor and even architecture curves can be seen all through out. Sleek silhouettes, and soft organically inspired shapes that create a modern and soft feel. Arches are seen throughout homes, round decor like mirror, wall art and even lighting. Rounded sofas and sectionals have also become widely popular. Although not only sofas but even furniture like dining tables, arched cabinets, rounded coffee tables etc. It seems curves are here to stay a little while.
6. Wall trim and molding
A quick look around in modern designer homes and you will see trim and molding fairly quickly. The clean lines on blank walls add character and a lot of visual interest. Trends are moving away from single feature walls and are turning towards wall treatments on every wall. I think it’s an easy way to add interest to a space you are maybe not sure what to do with and makes your home look high end! Paired with a moody wall colour and rich warm drapes in your living room and you got yourself a match made in heaven.
7. No TV
A big fat TV over the fireplace is not everyone’s cup of tea even though many still choose it for practicality. Statistics show that more and more people opt out of having a screen in the main living room. It seems that more and more people are starting to appreciate the value of being present with your loved ones in this tech filled world. Another popular choice is the Samsung frame TV! They are low shine and with the frame and a pretty TV art it looks like a framed picture!
8. Quality furniture pieces
In this day and age it seems sustainability and quality are appreciated more than in the past. Fast furniture seems to be less popular as the years go by and quality pieces made from good sustainability materials like wood, wool, linen and stone are seen throughout homes.
9. Repurposed vintage
Going hand in hand with quality sustainable pieces, are repurposed vintage furniture finds. Nothing adds character to a space then a vintage well made and well loved furniture piece like a table, chair or wardrobe. The saying “they don’t make-’em like they used to” is very true and sometimes that vintage find can complete a space! This has been especially popular the last year and doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere!
10. Earthy warm colour palette
Even though rich and moody colours are very much trending this year, neutral toned living rooms aren’t going anywhere yet. A neutral colour palette is still very much trending however instead of bright and crisp it is leaning more towards an earthy warm neutral including creams and beiges. This is also very much complimented with materials like wood furniture pieces or wooden beams, wool chairs, warm toned draped and lots of texture throughout.
