This is the season for outside dinner parties and there is no other table setting that is more fun and exciting to set then one that is held outside. Here are 10 stunning table decor ideas for the perfect outside dinner party.

An outside dinner party sounds dreamy, and it absolutely is but there are a few things to consider. Today I want to specifically give you decor ideas for a stunning table setting but also give you extra tips and things to consider when hosting an outside dinner party.

A few things to consider when hosting a dinner party:

Unfortunately an outside dinner party needs to be thought through a bit more then just decor. Since it is outside things like the weather, bugs and other factors can have an impact and either make or break the party. Let’s break it down:

Weather

It is always good to have a Plan B when planning a party outside in case the weather changes and unexpected rain or wind is present. For example having a space indoors where things can quickly be moved to or a party tent is a great backup plan.

If its just the wind then setting up the table in a shielded area is a good idea. Just some things to keep in mind!

Bugs

It’s easy to forget the bugs but if you love in Manitoba like I do then bugs are a problem. Bugs repellents are almost a must.

Some of our favorites that work great are:

  • Citronella Candles
  • Thermacell (My personal favorite)
  • Bug Spray
  • Bug Zappera
  • Netted Gazebo

Lighting

Lighting is a must if the party is in the evening and changes the whole vibe, creating a cozy and warm atmosphere. Consider candles, table lamps, sting lighting or lanterns!

A few must haves

Some obvious items needed when throwing an outside party dinner is that you will need a table and chairs. The table can be simple fold able tables, a pretty table cover will hide this and make things look top notch.

Another great thing to have is matching chairs. I know that can get expensive really fast so a great way to provide lots of seating without it looking like a camp out is using benches. These can be rented or easily made yourself.

I’d also argue that a speaker is a must but this of course is personal preference, however background music is always a good idea!

I think we covered the most important things now lets talk decor!

Table Decor

Before I share the list of inspiring photos below I quickly want to touch on a few things that will really make a difference when it comes to table decor. Some of these things are:

  • Tablecloth– You can really set the vibe with a pretty table cloth. Consider a plaid, linen or simple cotton tablecloth for a perfect clean slate.
  • Table runner– If you have a nice table you could skip the table cloth and just do a simple table runner. There are some really affordable options online and it will tie everything together!
  • Matching dishware– To take things to the next level consider skipping on paper plates and use real dishware. Not only does this look so much better but it will make your guests fell special!
  • Centerpiece– This is the fun part! I love putting together centerpieces big or small! This really doesn’t have to expensive and can be as simple as wildflowers in mason jars but will bring so much joy and beauty to the table.
  • Napkins– Again I would suggest real cloth napkins over paper. This will look so much better and will make your guests feel special!
  • Name Cards– If you really want to level up and impress your guests then add name cards to the table! This can be a small touch that can mean a lot!

I think that covers most of it, let’s get into some different ways you could style your tables!

1. Table Lamps

I love the idea of table lamps as part of the table decor! It surely is unique, doesn’t only look pretty but also provides lighting! This can be pricey though so I would check places like Temu or other websites that could provide these at a lower price or look into rentals.

2. Herbs

What a gorgeous and multi purpose idea to use herbs as centerpieces! The earthy color palette mixed with the green is stunning. Not only are some herbs bug repellent but can also give off beautiful aroma and could also be used to garnish your food!

3. Potted Flowers

A classic but stunning idea is to pot your favorite flowers and use them as centerpieces. You can go so many ways with this from different flowers, colors and pot choices. Have fun with it!

4. Studio McGee

Studio McGee is always a huge inspiration to me and their outside table setting set ups do not disappoint! Everything from the stunning furniture to the plaid tablecloth, matching dishware, greenery and stunning decor pieces is a match made in heaven.

5. Branches in Vase

A simple affordable idea is branches in a vase. This could be simple green branches, blooming cherry blossoms or lilac branches! Whatever is blooming in the season that you are in!

6. Lavender

Technically this is also a herb but there is just something about lavender that feels so whimsical and just never gets old. It is also bug repellent and smells heavenly.

7. Eucalyptus and candles

Another classic set up is greenery such as eucalyptus mixed with candles! Babies breath would also be a beautiful add on to this mixture!

8. Rustic Charm

What a beautiful idea of using wooden creates as vases! This adds a rustic charm and especially looks great with roses!

9. Wildflowers

This is one of my favorites and happens to be free! Using wild flowers that grow around you is so simple yet so stunning and makes for the perfect party table decor.

10. Use Fruit

A mixture of flowers and fruit is also a lovely idea, not only does it look pretty and is the perfect combination but provides your guests with a little snack while waiting for the main menu.

Until next time,
