Our modern vintage dining room reveal

modern vintage dining room

Today I am doing something a little different and sharing our dining room with you! We went with a simple modern vintage vibe and we love how it turned out. Read on for all the details!

As you might know from recent posts we started building our home in 2020 (yikes) and have been doing most of the work ourselves. It has been an adventurous 3 years that’s for sure, but slowly we have been finishing room by room.

We aren’t completely done with the house yet but today I thought I would share a glimpse into our dining room with you! I wanted to go with a modern vintage style, keep it simple and bright and I think I achieved it!

Details of our modern vintage dining room

Paint colour

The paint colour we chose for this space is the same as the rest of our house called Simply White by Benjamin Moore. We wanted a white that was white with few undertones yet still warm. It does have a tiny bit of a yellow undertone but in areas with lots of natural lighting it is the perfect white.

Arches and trim

When designing our house we thought about how to add character, and one thing I definitely wanted to do to achieve this are arches throughout the home! I think the arch in the dining room adds a ton of visual interest and character to the space!

Another way to add character without adding to much is wall trim! It keeps the space simple and uncluttered and adds charm and character. I definitely do not regret adding trim!

Furniture

I didn’t want brand new big box store furniture, and I know that’s not everyones cup of tea. I wanted vintage, old/quality pieces. The table was build by husband, it is a solid wood butter block table which I absolutely love. It is a one of a kind, that will last for years to come!

The chairs I sourced on Facebook marketplace. They are over 100 years old, and I love craftsmanship. The plan is to refinish them this summer and give them a new stain colour!

Washable Rug

I collaborated with Ruggable on our dining room rug. I am so happy with it! Not only is it washable, which was super important to me it being in the dining room, it is also so beautiful! I love the vintage print, and it grounds the space adding depth and character to the space.

We chose the Ophelia Bronze Multi Colour Rug in the size 8×10!

Lighting

I was inspired by Jean Sue and got this beautiful chandelier from Wayfair. It is still my favourite light in the home and complements this room so well!

Things we would do differently

As much as we love our dining room there are a few things we would change if we were to build again!

  1. Our dining room sits right next to our entrance and if designing a home again I wouldn’t do this. When having friends and family over jackets and shoes are all sitting in out entrance right next to our dining, it would have been nice to separate the two!
  2. A bigger dining room would have been nice! Our table seats 8 comfortably, maximum 10 people. Both my husband and I have big families, and we love to host and sometimes it is a tight squeeze in the dining room. If we were to build again we would make our dining room bigger so we can seat more people comfortably!

Conclusion

All in all we love our modern vintage dining room. Let me know what you think!
