Choose a Christmas Party Theme

This is usually the first decision to make, if you want to keep it casual and not have a specific theme that is fine as well however it’s usually helpful to have some kind of theme when it comes to decor and food or if you want to incorporate other things like games.

Here are some ideas!

Classic: For example an all white Christmas with touches of gold, glass and faux snow, or a candlelight Christmas, with layers of candlesticks, soft linens and greenery. Or a gilded Noel with gold ornaments, champagne tones, velvet ribbons and sparkle!

Natural & Earthy Theme: A woodland theme with pinecones, moss, tired oranges and rustic wood slices will give nostalgic enchanted Christmas vibes. Another great option is doing a Nordic minimalist style which includes clean whites, greenery and wooden accents- cozy but uncluttered. Lastly a vintage inspired theme which contains a mix of antique brass, dried citrus, amber glass bottles and foraged greenery.

Festive Menu Made Simple

Hosting and preparing food can be quite overwhelming when not having a plan in place, that’s why it is important to plan ahead!

Make a list of your favourite Christmas appetizers, easy holiday recipes and festive drinks.

If you can then ask your guests to bring a dish to make hosting a bit easier on you.

Think about easy prep ideas like Charcuterie boards with seasonal touches like cranberries, rosemary and figs. Try make ahead dishes so you don’t have to prepare everything on the same day like soup you can warm up.

Make a list and have a plan in place for a smooth experience!

To serve use tiered trays or cake stands for a more visually appealing food display!

Set The Mood

It makes a difference when you create a cozy magical holiday atmosphere!

Some ways of doing that is playing your favourite Christmas playlist in the background, creating a cozy and inviting ambiance with warm lighting like flickering candles, string or fairy lights.

And lastly a scent either from candles, diffuser or simmer pot with Christmas scents of pine, citrus, or mulled cider will make all the difference.

Keep it Budget Friendly

The price of hosting can easily accumulate if not being careful and when being budget friendly minded I have a few tips for you to keep things affordable.

  • Repurpose decor from previous years! You don’t need to buy new decor every year. Sometimes reused decor is even more special by providing that nostalgic feel!
  • DIY what you can! The ideas are endless, a quick search on Pinterest will give you ideas! Using things you can find in nature like greenery pinecones, or making your own garlands from oranges and popcorn can make it even more fun!
  • Choosing homemade over store bought. Sometimes a little grind is needed to save a penny, that makes it even more satisfying and special once it’s done!
