Home Design Trends that are OUT in 2025

Hey friends, in this post I want to cover a few things in home interior that are no longer trending, won’t last the test of time and just things to no longer include in new home builds or home renovations. Let’s say NO to these home design trends!

That being said if you love one of these or have them in your home then please don’t take offence. You can love what you love and be content or disagree with this post and that’s ok! Home interior is ever changing, trends come and go. However I think that these things I am about to list are ready to be gone!

1. Over-striped LVP Flooring

LVP flooring

Cool tones in flooring especially grey is longer a popular choice and gives 2010 vibes. Especially over striped, trying to make it look real when its far from it is no longer a good choice. Often builders still go with this style but hear me builder, it’s no longer trending.

I also recently read that LVP flooring can be quite over chemicalized actually being harmful to our health, so think about this when choosing flooring!

Instead go with natural materials like wood, or tiles or stone in that won’t harm our health, are natural, trendy and will stand the test of time.

2. Curtains that are too short

Curtains

Don’t make the mistake of hanging curtains too short! They should be full length to the floor and for a more elevated luxurious look hang the curtain rods higher than the actual window giving the illusion of a even bigger window.

3. Side Splash

Just don’t do it, it looks awkward, there is no point in doing this! Just end the backsplash in the corner and all will be well!

4. Take the tiles to the ceiling

When tiling a shower or even a open wall in a kitchen then take the tiles all the way to the ceiling and don’t stop midway. It is only a dew more square footage and will give the space a way more elevated look!

5. Don’t use two different floorings in the same space

Use the same flooring throughout the whole space! Don’t use different flooring for each room or even two different floorings in the same open space. Run the same flooring throughout the whole house this will make it seem bigger than it is and up to date in the home interior world.

Now using different flooring like tile or brick in mudrooms, bathrooms or laundry rooms is totally ok and doesn’t apply!

6. Using fake materials

living room

Anything that has a like at the end, for example wood like, leather like, linen like…you get the point. Go with real natural materials, it’s better for you, will last longer and looks so much better! If you think so or not but you can tell the difference!

7. Overstaged homes

It might be on the cover of magazines however 2025 is the year of real spaces and curated homes opposed to artificial. Instead of a perfect space and everything being brand new, look for antiques, handmade, inherited and unique pieces to fill your home with.

People are growing tired of all the influenced perfect spaces seen on social media, that are not really staged like seen all the time anyway. I love this trend and love the real life aspect of it.

8. Open floor concept

Don’t hate the messenger but open floor is less and less popular these days. It was highly popular after all the HGTV home renovation shows because it is much easier getting rid of walls and filming open spaces opposed to closed of spaces.

Now I am not spaying open floor plans are bad and out, some people still love this and that’s all fine and good!

We ourselves have an open floor plan, however the idea of more closed off kitchens and living rooms have a lot of pros like being less stimulated, having some separation can be helpful when hosting and preparing a big meal and hiding some of the chaos that comes with it, having a bit more privacy and intentional spaces.

9. Farmhouse style homes

White interiors, black square chandeliers, barn doors, you get the picture. This was a huge trend but as fast as it came it is going again. Just a reminder, don’t shoot the messenger. Instead of this go for a more personal, collected warm space that isn’t too matchy matchy.

10. Matching furniture sets

Last but not least try and stay away from matching furniture sets in the bedrooms, in kitchens, as living room sets but instead go for unique pieces that flow well together but aren’t a matching set!

This is all I have for today, if you love any of these trends then that’s totally ok and don’t take offence. One of the biggest trends this year is not being influenced and decorating your home how you truly love it.

Until next time,
