More tips about front of house landscaping
A few things to consider when landscaping your front yard that you don’t want to get wrong:
- Have a plan before you plant. This is important to avoid a random cluttered look. Ways to plan are simply sketching things out, using free online tools or hiring a professional if you need help with this.
- Consider your climate! This is important to know what plants will do well in your area and which won’t!
- Think long term. Consider how big your plants will get and if this will be an issue down the road. Especially when planting trees think about how big they will get, if their root system will cause any issues or if they will block sunlight getting into the home.
- Keep it low maintenance. Try going for low maintenance plans and consider native plant, mulch beds and simple borders to avoid having to spend to much time up keeping your front landscaping.
- Balance Hardscape and Softscape. Meaning find a balance between Softscapes like trees, plants or shrubs and Hardscapes like paths, steps, walls or rock features.
- Consider the house architecture. Match the landscaping to the style of your house, meaning for cottages go for relaxed landscaping or more formal for colonials.
- Add lighting! This improves nighttime curb appeal, adds safety and security.
I hope this post was helpful to you, I hope you don’t stress over your landscaping. Remember there is nothing wrong with taking it slow and really thinking about it first. Don’t forget to have fun with it!
