Even though a lot of the elements of home decor are staying the same as last year we do see some shifts this year. 2025 was all about creating a neutral soothing spa like home, and 2026 brings the change by reflecting more personality. This year puts more emphasis on craftsmanship and warmth, even more soulful and more of timeless European softness.

1. Color Palette

In 2026 neutral interiors are still very much in style however we are seeing a shift towards warmer, earth inspired neutrals that feel grounded, cozy and lived in.

Warm neutral colors you will be seeing more of this year are:

  • oatmeal
  • caramel
  • mushroom
  • clay
  • putty
  • warm taupe

These shades work beautifully with both modern and vintage pieces and help bringing warmth and comfort in any space.

Best materials to pair these colors with are handmade ceramics, natural wood, linen and cotton upholstery, stone, plaster or lime wash finishes!

2. Intentional Pops Of Color

A use of rich and muted colors is very popular this year, however sparingly and meaningfully! Instead of choosing to go with a rich colour for a whole room it used in in little nooks, pantries, bathrooms or used in art, accent chairs, lamps or rugs!

3. Old-World European Influence

One of the biggest home decor trends that is only growing in 2026 is the continued rise of old-world European design. This style is less about trends and more about authentic spaces that feel lived in and soulful.

These interiors prioritize warmth, texture and character. White walls are no longer a backdrop but are part of the design. Finishes like lime wash and plaster are very popular, also natural material and softly aged finishes.

The goal is to create a space that tells a story and that is inspired by a European farmhouse.

4. Character Driven Furniture

2026 is all about unique and character driven furniture and staying away from fast furniture. Distinct silhouettes and thoughtful details trump matching furniture sets.

This embraces the idea as though a home has been furnished over time instead of buying everything at once. Homeowners are mixing old and new like a vintage sideboard beside a new sofa. The result is a space that is layered, textured and full of character.

5. Darker Moodier Woods

This year wood tones are shifting from light oak colors to moody darker woods. Hues that are richer, grounding and deeper are taking over the design world and can be seen in furniture, kitchens, bedrooms or libraries.

This trend doesn’t mean everything needs to be dark, often darker woods are balanced with lighter warmer neutral for a balanced look.

6. Texture

Texture is taking centre stage as one of the most important design elements. Rather then relying on pattern homeowners are choosing materials that add visual interest like linen, raw wood, stone, plaster or wool.

A room layered in textures like – a soft linen sofa, a woven rug, a chunky wool throw, a woven rug, and wooden or stone elements- feels cozy and intentional even when the color palette remains simple.

7. Vintage & Thrifted Decor

In 2026 the movement continues to move further away from mass production pieces and towards items that feel unique and personal and which better way to do this then by thrifting and exploring vintage marketplaces.

Vintage decor add depth to space in a way new items usually can’t. A worn wooden stool, an aged mirror or ceramic vase with subtle imprecations bring warmth and authenticity to a room.

Another reason thrifting is big in 2026 is the connection to sustainable and slower living. Choosing second pieces reduces waste and encourages more thoughtful decorating.

8. Soft lighting and ambient glow

There is a clear shift towards soft ambient lighting in 2026. Instead of relying a strong overhead light homeowners are layering lighting throwout the home with table lamps, all sconces, candles or chandeliers.

This creates a space that feels cozy and homey and goes well with the theme of slower intentional living.

9. Art that feels personal

In 2026 art is more personal, collected and emotionally connected. Vintage landscapes, old sketches, architectural drawing, black and white photography, family heirlooms or pieces that is discovered while traveling and that have meaning are being preferred.

10. Rooms designed for slower living

If you haven’t noticed slower living is the trend this year! And this is also seen when designing little corners throughout the home to pause, take a moment and enjoy the moment.

Areas like reading corners, breakfast nooks or cozy seating areas are seen in new homes all showing that comfort and living in the moment is a priority.

I hope you enjoyed this years “trend” round up! Let me know which one is your favourite and if you are already enjoying these trends or design changes!
