The end of winter is the best time to think about your outdoor space and get it ready for the summer months! It helps creating different rooms, so to speak, in your outdoor space so there are different zones you can enjoy. This also optimizes your backyard to its full potential! 1. Create a seating area

In order to enjoy and relax you will be needing some outdoor furniture. You’ll want to start off by creating a space where you can place the furniture for seating. Usually this is on a back deck, a patio or another platform. Another option is clearing grass in an area and filling it with gravel. This gives you an outline and creates a zone for your seating area.

Nowadays there are so many stunning outdoor furniture options at different price points, Ill share some of my favourite for you guys!

2. Ground your outdoor space with a rug

Just like your living room your outdoor seating area will feel completely different with an outdoor rug. This sets the foundation and grounds the space to create a cozy and homey atmosphere. Make sure the rug you are using is actually an outdoor rug so it can withstand the elements outside!

3. Extend the indoor comforts to outside

Your outdoor space should be an extension of your indoors and bringing indoor comforts outside helps to achieve this. Consider outdoor pillows or throws for the colder chilly nights. This will bring your patio coziness to its next level! Don’t be scared to go for bold patterns or colours, let it reflect your surroundings.

4. Have a dining area in your outdoor space

Have an outdoor zone for a dining table. There is something special about sharing a meal outside with your friends and family. It is a completely different atmosphere and I can only recommend doing this often in the warmer months. There are a few things to make the alfresco experience more enjoyable like setting a pretty tabletop. Consider a pretty tablecloth, and a few special touches like melamine plates and real napkins. A vase with pretty floras or greenery will complete the look!

5. Set the mood with lighting

If you really want too level up and make a huge difference for not a lot of money then consider some outdoor lighting. To have a well lit area consider hardwired scones, a string of lights over your lounge area or along pathways. Lanterns or candles will also add beautiful shimmer to your dining space. This will make it so cozy and romantic in the evenings. Lighting will make all the difference and you will find yourself spending lots of evenings outside.

6. Create a fireplace area with seating

Having a fireplace zone also creates a fun area to spend lots of quality time with your loved ones. Building a stone fire-pit, a fire bowl or a fire-pit table are all great choices! All that’s left is adding seating like benches or chairs and you are ready to enjoy the warmth of the fire and endless s’mores under starlit skies.

7. Consider a hammock

I gave in last year and purchased a very affordable hammock online. I didn’t realize it would be such a big hit but it usually is the star of the show with our guests! There is a rare moment where it isn’t occupied and I love creating little cozy areas that can be enjoyed by all. It also adds a level of coziness and vibe to the yard especially under some string lights or in the shade!

8. Incorporate more greenery

If you feel like there is something missing and looking for that something but not sure what? It’s probably greenery! Having live plants in pots on the side table, patio and dining table or along your walkways elevates the space and completes the look. It adds organic moments reminding us why we are choosing to enjoy the outdoors to begin with. Consider a little potted herb garden, live shrubs or trees from the nursery, or cut flowers to add that special touch!

9. Think about a patio kitchen

Something that isn’t necessary but really adds value and levels up your outdoor space is an outdoor kitchen! You can go full on fancy with a built in sink, fridge and grill or just create a space for a BBQ a pizza oven with a space where you can prepare and enjoy the recipes you create. It doesn’t need to be fancy but it’s a good opportunity to create a moment with friends and family.

10. Consider a patio cover

Depending on where you live a patio cover might be a good idea. This might look different depending on what your needs are. Consider a pergola or umbrella for shade or a roof to shield you from rain. Covers don’t need to be ugly but its a good opportunity to add even more visual interest to your outdoor space and provide comfort and protection to the space.
