10 Ideas to add character and charm to a new build home:

1. Arches

Arches are a great way to add character to a home! They have been used for centuries in homes for example in classic home styles, Mediterranean or Victorian. They add visual interest and add elegance to any space and therefore a great architectural add on if you are building a new home.

2. Molding

When adding character to a home it is a great idea to see what has been done in the past and adapt certain elements in your new build to add character. One great element I love in new homes that instantly add character is molding and wall trim! I love that it’s timeless, fairly easy to do and instantly adds so much visual interest to a room!

3. Paneling and Wallpapers

If you really want to transform a room then consider using wallpaper to transform it. It is one of the quickest way to completely change the vibe of a room and add charm and character.

4. Add character with antique furniture

A mixture of old and new is trending all for good reason! They just don’t make it like they used too and sometimes it only takes a few antique pieces to transform a room and make it feel homey and cozy.

5. Choose hardwood flooring

When building a new home and you are trying to add character and warmth then hardwood flooring is a must! Try avoiding cooler colors and laminate flooring. Hardwood is so much more comfortable to walk on, better for your health and the dents and nicks will only add to the character of your new build.

6. Layered Lighting

Layered lighting is essential when trying to achieve a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, all adding to a lived in vibe. Adding lighting like sconces, table lamps, floor lamps are some examples how to achieve this. Another tip is to go for warm lighting which is softer on the eyes and it will automatically feel cozier.

7. Hang Antique Art
